future of online christian education

It looks like distance education is here to stay. With the costs of campus education rising, the only way to cut costs in the future will be in through distance education. Technology is advancing quickly so the obstacles that now lower the quality of distance learning will be soon diminished.

Yet, one still cannot be fully replicated: the community factor. Big part of education is what you learn from your peers in an informal settings, and these interactions are simply just not happening over the computer screen. It would be like saying that it is enough to attend a church service over the TV screen. This is still something would would not consider.

mashable.com published an interesting overview of the tech aspect of distance learning.

So despite of the technology advancements, distance education at least in the christian college context, will not take over.
